Teeth Exams and Thorough Cleanings in Cocoa Beach
Teeth need to be cleaned on a regular basis. You might have pretty good oral health, but a simple lack in teeth cleaning could quickly change that. At Steven Devins, DDS in Cocoa Beach, we recommend daily oral cleaning to prevent tooth decay. Additionally, you should schedule an appointment to visit our office for a dental cleaning every six months. The following are the steps you can take at home:
- Brushing – You should brush your teeth at least twice each day. Removing plaque immediately can prevent acid from attacking the surface.
- Flossing – Your toothbrush cannot reach between the teeth, which is why you should floss at least once per day.
- Fluoride – Buy toothpaste that has fluoride in it for everyday use. At your six-month dental exam, we will also do a fluoride treatment.
- Stimulate Saliva – If you are not in an area where you can brush or floss, do something that will stimulate saliva for the dilution of acid. Sugarless chewing gum is a great way to do this.
Sometimes your mouth simply can’t fight the acid that is created when you eat. In such a situation, patients could end up needing a tooth filling. At Steven Devins, DDS, we have both tooth-colored fillings and white fillings. There are benefits to both types of dental fillings, and we can discuss those at your checkup. We also complete sealants for patients with deep grooves in their molars. These sealants protect the chewing surface of the teeth by keeping the bacteria out at all times.
